BCCS Daycare
The Burnaby Children Centre Daycare at Hanna Court is an innovative playground and creative childcare play space for 3-5-year-olds. Stemming from the concept of Natural Play, the design incorporates natural and formal structures in a 5000 sq ft interactive exterior playscape.

Natural play; modern design
The Pacific Northwest setting heavily influences the design with thematics that mimic a natural stream through spatial progression and organic paving patterns. A thematic forest in the form of vertical 4x4 posts of varying heights acts as the project centre-piece with brightly coloured cast-in-place concrete circular stepping stones providing a maze for children to move amongst. A formal slide and play piece along the west side encourage motor skill development.
A place to explore
One of the project’s most challenging construction elements is a custom-cast water trough that allows the kids to wash their hands and control water flow into the sandbox for special activities. Smooth logs and boulders interspersed throughout the native planting areas further encourage exploration. This final playspace is a success and remains one of our most rewarding projects for our favourite clients; the kids!
