San Jose Residence

We renovated two floors of this turn-of-the-century home in Victoria’s historic James Bay neighbourhood. What began as the reconfiguration of a 3rd-floor main bedroom and on-suite bathroom evolved into a two-story open-concept renovation and an age-in-place final product.

Expanded layout makes it flow

The expanded scope led us to remove and rebuild the main staircase. For this, we supported on permitting and consultant design coordination to update structural elements to current safety standards. The results led to new hallway layouts and an expanded living room on the lower floor. We finished the staircase with floor-to-ceiling fir spindles to complement new oak flooring and create an airy, flowing feel.

Golden personality

On the upper level, the bathroom’s design and material decisions reflect the homeowners’ personalities, where gold finishes accent a navy vanity with a white porcelain counter. The colour palette carries into the shower and tub area with a floor-to-wall wrap of ceramic mosaic tiles.

This architectural fir structure provides the backyard with a shady spot to relax.
